Pegswood - commuter service changing to become useless to current customers Posted by grahame at 07:12, 4th October 2025 | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I loved this ...
Hi Richard thank you for talking down to me so freely
... from a discussion Here on Facebook by Councillor Vicky Oakley, Pegswood Ward. They have just three trains each way per day (two in one direction and one in the other), used primarily (as I understand it) as a commuter flow in and out of Newcastle. A pretty poor service in the first place - not fit IMHO for the general flows but it might suit the commuters.
Except Northern are changing their timetable in December and 07:55 into Newcastle, there at 08:22, return at 17:57 into Pegswood at 18:22 become 07:52 (Pegswood) to 08:19 (Newcastle) - no problem and 17:14 (Newcastle) to 17:38 Pegswood. That IS a problem for the regular users - they won't finish work in time to get to the station to get the train home.
The rail industry does not appear to be providing the services already used - or indeed anything useful - to Pegswood any longer. And, yes, I have travelled on that train and recall a fair bunch getting off along there, though it got quieter as it completed its run to Chathill.

Oh, I remember something very similar in the upper Thames Valley with FGW.....
