Loads of exclusions. Looks like Plymouth has been removed from Devon for the duration.

Very amused by the on-train PA heading towards the main line from St Ives; they pronounce it ‘St Eurghh’, as though they’ve discovered they’ve stepped in something nasty halfway through the announcement…
That's great!

Hmmm ...
I purchased an Interrail pass still to be used in the Black Friday Sale
I purchased my Penzance trip (and a couple of other shorter ones) a few days ago
Will my SO be happy with me if a purchase some in the rail sale?
Negotiations have taken place -- she has upgraded her iPhone ...

Wondering aloud, perhaps alighting at St Erth and taking the branch to St Ives and back to St Erth.
Then (timings permitting) take a HST to Camborne, thence HST to Penzance?

Will take a look - but I suspect the advance/sale fare does not allow me to end my journey before my ticketed station? I remember someone getting into serious trouble buying a "This train only" London to Southampton Central ticket and getting off at Eastleigh.
There’s no barriers and never seen a revenue check at StErth, but I’m sure they could arrange one knowing what train you’re on
Logic is to ask the train manager if I can get off at St Erth. Unlikely to refuse and it's then done with permission, so allowed.

This doesn't get any better for those boatowners: from youtube, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmUAqeWp9ug (18 minutes)

From Network Rail:
Global ‘whistle-up’ on New Year’s Day signals start of rail’s 200th anniversary
A celebratory cacophony of train locomotive whistles and horns at midday on 1 January 2025 will signal the start of the 200th anniversary of the modern railway.
The Railway 200 Whistle-Up, spearheaded by the Heritage Railway Association (HRA), will involve more than 50 heritage railways in the UK and abroad blowing the whistles of nearly 200 vintage steam and diesel locomotives to herald a year-long celebration. Railways in other countries, including Holland, South Africa and Sierra Leone, will be taking part, some with British-built locos. The HRA claims it will be the biggest railway heritage mass participation event ever.

Darn! I saw this on youtube at the time - but I overlooked an opportunity to post a link here then.
It's not too late however, and if you do have four and a half minutes to spare, I recommend a viewing / listen!

There have been bans where thought necessary by the CPS/courts

Sadly, yes. From the Richmond & Twickenham Times:
Hanwell station Elizabeth line incident: Person dies
A person has died after an incident on the Elizabeth line at a busy west London train station.
A casualty on the tracks was reported at Hanwell station at around 1.15pm today (January 10). Officers and London Ambulance Service crews attended, and the person was pronounced dead shortly after. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
All lines between London Paddington and Reading have been closed as the incident is being dealt with. Major disruption is expected until 4.30pm.
If you need someone to talk to, Samaritans are available to contact any time day or night on 116 123.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Hanwell railway station at around 1.15pm today (10 January) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

My highlighting - hopefully helpful. Chris.

And Network Rail should get tough and recover all the compensation it pays out for bridge bashes too
I guess the difficulty there is that they are generally accidental?
Assume they claim from the vehicles insurers and then it’s up to the insurers whether they recover for negligence.

Are there prosecutions when this happens? It's an interesting point.

Looking as though GWR are taking part too - they have a webpage URL reserved ending 'railsale' unused currently (the latest sale was just 'sale' on the end of the URL.
https://www.gwr.com/railsale
Conditions (all TOCs presumably using the same ones) can be found on Chiltern's website already.
No Railcards. Not available on all routes

I can see why the locals call it ‘Tower Bridge’. Not much fun lugging two large suitcases and a guitar over it - might be a bit easier when the lifts start operating!
Perhaps if we had a member who played the violin it might be a bit lighter ...

Phew, thank goodness for that! New Year, TG!
I think perhaps you tempted fate...................
Cancellations to services between Reading and London Paddington
Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Ealing Broadway and West Ealing all lines are blocked. Disruption is expected until 16:00 10/01.
Fatality at Hanwell by the looks of it. The ultimate unhappy new year for somebody then. Thoughts to friends, family and all involved.
Sadly, we are now ‘in the season’ for such incidents.
